Clothes are a basic need. It helps regulate your body temperature and protects you from the weather. It’s essential we go shopping for the basics like tops, bottoms, underwear, and shoes. But there are shoppers that go overboard when it comes to shopping for clothes. These are the shoppers that have every color of a particular shirt or they get the trendiest things right when it first comes out. I’m not that kind of a shopper but I would still like curb my shopping habits. Here are a couple of tips to keep in mind when you’re at the mall shopping for new clothes.

  • If you still have clothes with tags on them hanging in your closet, don’t buy any new items until they’ve been worn or if they’ve been given away.
  • It’s a good idea to allot yourself a certain amount of money to be spent on clothes. Set a monthly budget for clothes and stick to it.
  • Buy less trendy items and invest in classic, staple items. Classic pieces such as a good pair of jeans and a white blouse are good to invest in because they never go out of style. It’s easy to change up the look of these pieces by adding accessories such as jewelry, handbags, hats, and scarves. Trends come and go with different seasons so it’s important to stock your closet with staple items that can be worn for multiple times, no matter what the latest trend is.
  • Buy items that you can mix and match with whatever you already have in your wardrobe. Keep colors that you like and that will coordinate well with other colors. Black, whites, and neutrals should be in every closet. To add some spice, why not add in some red?
  • Most stores have really good sales at the end of season when they’re getting new clothes in for the next season. Instead of buying the new clothes, make your way over to the sales rack find clothes that are marked down. This may mean buying winter clothes at the beginning of spring or buying summer clothes when the temperature’s about to drop. You’ll still have a couple more weeks to wear the clothes until the temperature starts to drastically change but you can save them for next year.
  • Don’t be scared of shopping at consignment or thrift stores. I found some really good deals when shopping at resale shops. You can find some really good labels hidden in the rows and rows of clothing racks. It’s just a matter of taking the time to go through and finding quality clothes at thrift stores.
